so that
① 引导目的状语从句时，表示“以便，为了”，从句中常使用can /could /may /might /will /would /should等情态动词或助动词。

如：He spoke at the top of his voice so that the students at the back could hear him.    他说话声音很高，为的是后面的同学能听见。(目的状语从句）

② 引导结果状语从句时，从句中一般不用can和may等词，在so that前可以用逗号，意思是“因此，所以”。

如：He spoke at the top of his voice, so that the students at the back heard him. 他说话声音很高，结果后面的同学都听见了。(结果状语从句)

注：so that引导的结果状语从句一般要用逗号和主句隔开，从句里没有表目的的情态动词may, can, might或could。
