New year's money (called "balishi" in Guangdong) is one of the customs of new year's day. It has no origin. It is said that it is to suppress evil spirits. After dinner on New Year's Eve, the elder should give the younger New Year's money to wish them a safe life. New year's money is the most hopeful gift for children in the new year.

New year's money originated early, but it was really popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In ancient times, there were two kinds of lucky money: special money and common money. The special new year's money is a kind of imitation. Its material is copper or iron, its shape is square or long. The money is usually engraved with "good luck", "good fortune and longevity", "long life".

New year's money, some directly to the younger generation, some are in the younger generation sleep, put their feet or pillow. New year's money is the meaning of blessing. New year's money in folk culture means to ward off evil spirits and exorcise ghosts, and bless peace. The original intention of new year's money is to suppress evil and drive away evil spirits. Because people think that children are vulnerable to sneaky attacks, they use new year's money to drive away evil spirits.

According to the folklore, the money for children's new year's Eve is divided. It's said that when the evil spirits and demons or "Nian" hurt the children, the children can bribe them with the money and turn the bad into the good.

From this point of view, new year's money is related to childlike innocence, and children's new year's money is mainly used to buy firecrackers, toys, candy and other things needed for festivals. Nowadays, the custom that elders distribute lucky money to their elders is still popular. The amount of lucky money varies from dozens to hundreds. These lucky money is mostly used by children to buy books and learning supplies. The new fashion gives new content to lucky money.

New year's money, also known as new year's money, is one of the customs of new year's day. It's sent by the elders to the younger generation.

After dinner, the elders should distribute the new year's money prepared in advance to the younger generation. It's said that new year's money can suppress evils, and the younger generation can live a safe life after getting the new year's money。

during the Spring Festival in the Northern Song Dynasty, there was a small boy, Nan Shao, the Deputy Prime Minister Wang Shao, who followed the adults to play on the street.

During the escape, he happened to encounter a royal car passing by. Nanxin called for help loudly. The villain put Nanxin down and ran away in a hurry. Later, when Emperor Shenzong learned about this, he gave Nanxin some money and surprised him. From then on, "New Year's money" spread among the people.
