1.prefer和prefer to，都表示“宁愿……”“更喜欢”的意思。
prefer后面一般加名词。
例句：I prefer the country.
我宁愿住乡村。
prefer to一般是2种用法。
一个是后面加动词prefer to do sth
例句：No, thanks. I prefer to do the driving myself.
不用了，谢谢。我较喜欢自己驾驶。
一个是后面加有比较的2件事或者物，to前面的是更喜欢的事物。
例句：I prefer honey to sugar.
我喜欢蜂蜜胜于糖。

2.Near by 和 nearby，都表示“ 靠近，在…旁边”“ 邻近，在附近”的意思
两个的用法接近
例句：Oh, then can you recommend another hotel nearby?
那么你能介绍附近的什么旅馆吗?。
Why did you choose a site with a stream near by?
你为什么要选择一个附近有小溪的地方呢？
但是nearby作为形容词的时候，后面可以直接加名词，而near by很少有这么用的。

3.这个比较好区分，意思不一样的。
Scaned倾向于“仔细观看；仔细检查”“扫描”，而 browsed则倾向于“浏览、漫不经心的看” 这个“扫描”和“浏览”虽然都是大范围的看，但是很明显，浏览有些“漫不经心”。

4.may be只作adv用，很少用在句子的开头。而maybe还可以作名词用，且maybe一般用在句子的开头
