sell这里是系动词（像is,am,are一样）用法。和主系表结构是一样的。
用法就是主语+该词+表语。完事~不用被动语态
这就和sell well 的用法差不多
eg. this book sells well.这本书卖的很好/这本书很畅销。

sell当然也可以做实意动词，除了在上面那个句型里做系动词之外大部分时候做实意动词。比如说that dogs is sold.那条狗被卖掉了。
不同点在于，做系动词时强调状态。
做实意动词时强调动作。
还有很多类似的词像smell,taste,look,touch,sound 等都有做系动词的功能
it sounds good.不会说 it is sounded good 对吧
he looks cool.
