其后经常接when引导的并列句（非时间状语从句），意思是“某人正要做某事，就在这时...”。

look up 向上看/抬头看；（生意、某人的情况等） 好转/改善；拜访(某人)； 查找
此题考查它的“好转/改善”之意。
3. D
what he does为主语从句，其中does为该从句的谓语；
第二个也用助动词does，表示强调，且其后的动词用原形。因为主语what he does为单数，所以借助于助动词does来对谓语please进行强调。
再如：He does love you. 就是 He loves you.的强调表示句型。
不过此题貌似A也勉强可以，因为以what引导的主语从句，可能表示单数概念，也可能表示复数概念。
此题没有绝对把握，sorry！

in spite of = despite，可都做介词，引导宾语the fact，排除B；
