这个，主要是和前边的equivalent没有关系，是因为equivalent是和介词to搭配的。

be equivalent to 意思是与。。。等同；相当于。。。

而这里的to作为介词，后边要加名词成分/动名词。而doing形式即“动名词”。

因此，equivalent to + n./doing

但是说实话，最常用的是后边直接加个名词~~，用起来比较舒服。

比如：This certificate is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree.
