Herodias hated him because he challenged her to give up her sinful way of life and convert, something she wasn’t prepared to do. So she had his head cut off to silence him. Jesus too was a ‘nuisance’ for the Pharisees, whom he challenged to be more generous and humble. So they killed him too. We also will be persecuted if we challenge people to live better lives, but we must be prepared to do it when it is necessary, because not to demand the best of people is indifference, the opposite of love.
Prayer: Lord give me the courage to challenge people to live according to your will.
Challenge: Speak to someone today who is living far from God. Challenge them (always with kindness and respect) to rethink their priorities in life.
