so that 引导目的状语从句，意为“以便;为了”，相当于in order to/so as to;
so……that 意为“如此……以致于……”，so是副词，常常用来修饰形容词和副词，that引导结果状语从句，常和too…to…结构互换。
so that.和so……that的区别：
一、释义不同
1、so that的意思是以致、为了、以便于；
2、so……that的意思是如此……以致于……。
二、用法不同
1、so that 引导目的状语从句，常放于句中，可以与in order to/so as to互换;
例句：They got up early so that they could catch the first bus.
——They got up early in order to catch the first bus.
——They got up early so as to catch the first bus.
他们起得很早，以便赶上头班车。
2、so…that…中so是副词，常常用来修饰形容词和副词，说明其程度的大小，that引导结果状语从句，常和too…to…结构互换。
例如：
I am so sleepy that I can hardly keep my eyes open.
——I am too sleepy to I can hardly keep my eyes open.
我困得眼睛都睁不开了。
三、从句性质不同
1、so that 引导目的状语从句，意为“以便;为了”，常放于句中，但是in order to常放于句首或句中，so as to常放于句末。
2、so…that和such…that都可以构成结果从句，所不同的是so…that之间接形容词或副词，而 such…that之间接名词。一般情况下，即使名词前有形容词修饰也不能换用so…that。

我妹妹是如此的小以至于不能去上学。
=My sister is so young that she can’t go to school.
补充：
1、so that 引导的目的状语从句，有“以便，为了"的意思，从句中通常用may(might)或can(could)。
例如：
We learn English so that we can get more knowledge.
我们学习英语为了我们可以得到更多的知识。
如果so that 引出的从句为否定结构，则其谓语多用should + v., 此时，so that 常译为“免得”或“以免”。
例如：
He hurried away so that she wouldn't see him.
他赶紧离开故意不让她看到他。
2、so…that句型中的that 在口语中常可以省去，其意思不变。
例如：
The story was so funny it made everybody laugh.
这故事太滑稽了，把大家都逗笑了。
so…that 句型中的“so+形容词（副词）”可以提至句首，以加强语气，但要注意用倒装语序。
例如：
So bright was the moon that the flowers were bright as by day.
