Lan, who enjoys a high reputation as a TV presenter and studio manager in China, unexpectedly gave up her job with Hong Kong Phoenix TV at the end of 1999. Soon afterwards (然后), she created Sun Television Cybernetworks Company, and became the director of Sun TV. Back in 1990, Yang Lan had just graduated from the English Department of Beijing Foreign Language University . She was lucky to be selected from over one thousand candidates to be the presenter of a new program on CCTV, which would make her a household name. Her style, talent (才智) and personality made her stand out among Chinese presenters. In 1994 she was awarded (获奖) the Golden Microphone at the First National Hosts Competition. However in 1995, setting her sights even higher, Yang Lan gave up her job with CCTV, to go to the USA and study International Media.In 1996, Yang Lan received her Master's degree from Columbia University and two years later became studio producer and presenter for Hong Kong Phoenix Satellite Television Company (香港凤凰卫视). She benefited a lot from working for Phoenix TV. The relaxed production environment allowed her to create a series of important programs, enabling her to make her name in Hong Kong and Taiwan . Then in October 1999, with her career in full flourish, she left Phoenix in search of greater production freedom. Yang Lan explained: “I like creation. I would like to fail in creation rather than succeed in making programs from old and tired ideas.” Leaving CCTV and Phoenix TV allowed her the freedom (自由) to make the kind of programs she wanted. Yang Lan's Sun TV went on air internationally on 8th August, 2000. Programs such as Figures, Science and Civilization and Unsolved Mysteries , have attracted (吸引) large audiences. Yang Lan's profound touch and serious treatment were evident in all the programs. Yang Lan hopes that Sun TV will help to promote China 's splendid (辉煌的) culture and record mankind's great historic moments.
