I AM an elementary school music teacher from DeMoines, Iowa. I’ve always supplemented (补充) my income with private piano lessons.
Robby was 11 years old when his mother, a single mom, dropped him off for his first lesson. From the beginning, I thought it was a hopeless endeavor (努力). Much as Robby tried, he lacked the sense of tone and basic rhythm needed to excel. At the end of each weekly lesson he’d always say: “My mom’s going to hear me play someday.” But it seemed that he just did not have any natural ability.
I only knew his mother from a distance. She always waved and smileed but never stopped inside .Then, one day,Robby stopped coming to our lessons.
Several weeks later I was planning a recital(演奏会).To my surprise,Robby called to ask me if he could be in it.I told him that the recital was for current(现在的) students only.He insisted, saying that his mom had been sick and unable to take him to piano lessons ,but that he was still practicing .Idon't know what led me to agree to his request.I guess,I somehow knew that he deserved a chance.
