Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. 

We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.

It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this. But in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground. 

The brave men, living and dead who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.

It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. 

It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us

--that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion

--that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.

葛底斯堡战役简介

葛底斯堡战役于宾夕法尼亚葛底斯堡及其附近地区爆发,是美国内战中最血腥的一场战斗,经常被引以为美国内战的转捩点。

斯图亚特在白兰地车站一役负于联邦骑兵为了洗刷自己的失败而脱离邦联主力留下李的步兵在缺乏侦察部队的情况下进犯宾夕法尼亚,为战败埋下隐患开始。

第一天的战役时主要布福德的主动积极展开,布福德将军意识到城南高地(公墓岭)的军事价值之后孤军奋战,以寡敌众,迟滞南军攻势。

步兵增援到来之后,铁旅发动了英勇的冲锋击溃了南军的首次攻势。之后北军虽然被南军击退但遭到迟滞的南军未能攻占公墓岭。

第二天的战役米德将军利用内线调动和地形部署的鱼钩防线由于第3兵团席宼斯将军擅自前出而险些崩溃,整个军为了填补这个漏洞付出了卓绝的努力。

在这场战斗中在中央防线出现漏洞的时候,明尼苏达第一步兵团在汉考克的指挥下以262人向南军1,700人的阿拉巴马步兵旅发动了冲锋,付出82%伤亡的代价阻挡了南军的前进,保证了北军防线的完整。

在北军最左翼的小圆顶,张伯伦的缅因第二十步兵团坚守高地,在弹药耗尽的情况下发起了对南军发起了白刃冲锋,击退了南军的攻击。
