① 一般情况下，sit down相对语气比较硬，具有一种命令或指示的意味，显得没那么客气；

② 而have a seat就显得更加委婉和礼貌，如果有客人或长辈，让别人坐下可以说Have a seat，please或者Please be seated。

1）In the hot seat
其实这个词组是很容易猜出意思的，hot seat说明这个“位置很烫”，坐不得，因此意味着你的境遇很糟糕。
In the hot seat意思就是指处境艰难，还可以说in the hot water或high and dry。
