Remain is a copula verb，or 系动词 in Chinese. When used with a predicative（表语），it requires the verb transformed to the -ing or -ed form.

When refering to the state of 坐下, the word SEAT must be used in its passive form, i.e. seated. Thus, A and C are not correct.

How about D? To be means the movement will happen sometime in the future, but now ocdur now, which doesn't fit the context. That's why to choose B.

PS: You may also replace seated by sitting.
