在如下对话中我按照我的经历根据语境，把「Go to the Extra Mile」理解成 乐于助人 的意思。
我理解的语境是：A想让Gerald帮忙，但是A和他不熟悉，B说没事的Gerald很xxxx的，所以他会帮你的。

A: You are the only person who saw what really happened last night.
B: No, that’s not true at all. Gerald was also there.
A: Oh really? Was he there? I didn’t notice his presence.
B: Actually, he was only there for a short time but I think what he knew and saw is enough to give some significant insight on the matter.
A: Do you think I should phone him? Would he be willing to help? I don’t know him well.
B: That’s no problem. Gerald is the kind of person who’s willing to go the extra mile.
A: I’m glad to know that. I guess I'll give him a call today, then.

但是外教说不是，我实在是找不出来对应的中文来翻译。另：我有事先看过网上的解释，但是放到这里根本行不通。1.比别人多付出一点 2.主动承担工作。

大概理解了，和平常说的“乐于助人”是有那么一点不同的意思，又能恰到好处。只是有一点「努若」作何解释呀，没有找到这个词。是不是您笔误了。

谢谢，不过「努苦」也找不到，找到类似「不辞劳苦、不辞辛劳」。相关百度百科上有这么一个例子：【例句】白求恩同志不辞辛苦来到中国，帮助中国人民渡过难关。这里要使用 白求恩 仅仅使用「乐于助力」确实会显示不妥，就这个了。十分感谢你，你和Gerald一样的好人。

这两个是网上搜索出来的解释，感觉古道热肠这个词更适合一点追问

古道热肠是比乐于助人含蓄一些,但是这个意思合适不合适不好拿捏。 国外的俚语不好理解,没有办法严格的对应起来。:)
