Are famous people treated unfairly by the media? Should they be given more privacy, or is the price of their fame an invasion into their private lives?
Nowadays more and more ordinary people tend to focus their attention on the private life of the famous people rather than the great works and contribution they have made to our society. While as a matter of fact, the unfair and worsening situation we worried about is that famous people are treated by current mass media and the public insight into celebrities are, to some extent, being distorted.
First of all, the abuse of public presses and report will disturb and trouble idols' daily life a lot and even their family members will be involved, what’s more, they will be easily hurt psychologically. However, the reality we are faced with now is disappointing. I’d like to take Chen Kun, a famous actor in mainland, as an example. A few months ago, a photo in which Chen Kun and a little boy showed up caused a hot controversy whether the boy is Chen’s bastard. At last, after a short period silence, Chen explained to the press that the boy was just adopted by him and he was reluctant to open this fact is in order to protect the child but unfortunately he failed since he is famous! Some people may argue that that’s the price they should pay for their fame and reputation which they have to endure and suffer. But in my opinion, fame do not mean well-known people must sacrifice themselves at the cost of their privacy and own life. Everyone has their own right to keep a secret and make their privacy protected and respected.
Secondly, audience prefers to pry into the trifles and private life offered by the bamboo telegraphs through mass media to satisfy their desire for entertainment and unconsciously people’s value are distorted at the same time. You will always hear people talking about how much they earn, what they wear, eat, drink and say in a party and who loves who. etc. The world is crazy and people are losing their high taste and become more superficial. Moreover, the high speed of development of information technology will also mislead our young generation by some kinds of unhealthy reports. In the competitive market, many publishers spare no effort to peep even make up secret stories of celebrities to meet audience’s curiosity, which will make our children not be able to do justice to so much information.
Thirdly, I must note that the public press needs to adhere to the professional ethic and make the environment clean and healthy and meanwhile we information receivers should be self-discipline and wise enough to make our independent judgment. To my part, we should leave more space for celebrities and they also need to learn how to protect themselves from exposure of privacy to the public. Their fame should in many cases call and stimulate the attention on social commonweal and charity. In addition, journalists and mass media should take the responsibility to work as a press guide for our society
To conclude, all the people including celebrities, media and audience should work together to make our society cleaner and healthier.
