两个词组在意义上没有多大区别,但用法有诸多不同,两者的意义都为:为了......在句子中通常做目的状语;不过in order to用法较为灵活,它引导的结构在句子前后皆可,肯定或否定没有限制,如:<1>In order to catch the first bus,she got up very early.<2>上句也可She got up very early in order to catch the first bus.<3>In order not to fail in the coming exam,he studies every day.但so as to引导的结构只能放在句子后面,且通常用于否定结构中,如:He arrived here very early so as not to miss the chance to meet his friend.
