说法一：嫦娥即玉兔。嫦娥因奔月后冒犯玉帝，被罚成化形玉兔，终日捣药。这种说法联系了嫦娥奔月的传说，不算太过离谱。
说法二：三位神仙测试狐狸、猴子及兔子的心性，兔子优胜，被神仙送往广寒宫，成为那里的“药房总管”。这种说法不要说事实依据，连神话传说上也难找到依据，纯属瞎掰。
说法三：玉兔是兔仙的小女儿，送与嫦娥广寒宫作伴的。
说法四：后羿即玉兔。后羿思妻不得，遂化身玉兔，与嫦娥广寒宫中长相厮守，颇具浪漫主义情怀。
说法五：玉兔是周文王姬昌的长子伯邑考被害后的三魂所化，《封神演义》中有这样的情节，文王知道吃下去的是儿子的肉，脱离掌控后第一时间将肉吐了出来，那些肉坠地化形而为兔。
