Lhasa Peaceful on Major Tibet Anniversary
The city of Lhasa (拉萨市) is quiet and peaceful, 50 years after Tibet’s Democratic Reform led by the Communist Party of China (中国共产党).
This month, Chinese government published a white paper on Tibet before and since 1959. Before 1959, Tibet was a society of feudal serfdom. The serfs were oppressed by their serf owners (农奴主). Since the reform, there are no longer any serfs or serf owners in Tibet. The life of the Tibetan people has been greatly changed.
Today, the life of average Tibetan is unaffected even under close watch by foreign press at this special time. There are as many taxies and buses on the roads as usual. The market streets in central Lhasa remain busy. Office workers hurriedly go to work, school children happily attend school. You can see smiles from their faces. Yes, life is much better now!
