中国的农历的七、八、九个月是秋季,八月十五恰在秋季正中间,所以这天的节日就叫做“中秋节”,也称“八月节”。因为它是继春节之后一个最重要的合家团聚的节日,所以又叫“团圆节”。

中秋的祭月也称“拜月”,民间大多是在自家庭院里摆上供桌,放上月饼,瓜果等贡品。 有的地方还要放萝卜、莲藕、鸡冠花、毛豆枝一类具有本地特色的供物。
