她为人真是通体和蔼、不惜屈尊。

1.in one's good graces,固定用法,表示“受某人的宠爱”

The man whom she could not bear to speak of the day before was now high in her good graces. (Chapter 15)

前一天她还不能忍受提及这个男人的名字,今天就已然对他青眼有加。

这位极富才华的钢琴家一直受到评论界的青睐。

The brilliant pianist has long been held in the good graces of the critics

2.Mr.Collins was eloquent in her praise. (Chapter 14)

科林斯先生滔滔不绝地赞扬起她(凯瑟琳夫人)来。

眼神比言语更有说服力。

The eyes are more eloquent than the words.

表达的意思就是“生动、脉脉含情”

“会说话的眼睛”,eloquent eyes

eloquent可以用来形容满月,即full moon

claim:Society has claims on us all.claim本意为“要求、声称、索要”,have claim on sth.意为对某事有所有权。

society作为主语,就使得句子结构更加生动

这场大火吞噬了数百条生命。

The blaze has claimed hundreds of lives.

这一事件需要我们的高度关注。

The incident claims our highest attention.

  

9.We are all liable to error. (Chapter 20)

  我们都会犯错误。

她每次看悲情片就会哭。

She is liable to cry at sad movies

读这本书的时候,我们又哭又笑。

We are liable to laugh as much as cry when reading this book.

10.Elizabeth might have found some trial of her patience in weather , which totally suspended the improvement of her acquaintance with Mr. Wickham.. (Chapter 17)

伊丽莎白也觉得这糟糕的天气快让她失去耐心了,就因为天气的原因,她和韦翰先生根本没办法多见面。
