1. The Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most significant holiday for all of us. On New Year's Eve, family members gather for a grand feast. Simultaneously, we exchange warm greetings and celebrate each other's company. At approximately midnight, some parents and children light fireworks and firecrackers, illuminating the entire sky. We eagerly watch the fireworks display, and the atmosphere is truly bustling!
2. On the first morning of the new year, many elderly individuals rise early and adhere reversible "Fu" characters or hang couplets on the front doors of their homes. Some households also decorate their windows with red paper cutouts.
3. The Chinese New Year festival spans fifteen days. Therefore, during these fifteen days, we customarily visit relatives from door to door. This is a joyous time for children, as they receive red envelopes filled with money from their parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, and others. The final day of the Chinese New Year is another festival known as the Lantern Festival.
4. Some individuals speculate whether Christmas will replace the Spring Festival in China. However, this concern is rather unnecessary. Christmas primarily resonates with Christians, college students, and employees of joint-venture companies. It is predominantly celebrated in cities, whereas the Spring Festival remains the most influential traditional festival for families across China.
5. As I stand on the cusp of a new year, I cannot help but contemplate my plans for the upcoming year. I believe in the adage, "A good beginning is half the success." Therefore, I aim to be diligent while others relax, ensuring I gain an early advantage. Although it may seem challenging, I intend to make the most of any spare time I can find. By giving my best, I will live up to my plans, and the results will speak for themselves.

Zhu Guozhang, the representative of our dormitory, asked us to guess a line of poetry related to this situation. He mentioned that Li Xinmin was the only one born in the dog year, while the other three were born in the chicken year, leaving us all puzzle. Eventually, our monitor shouted out, "The day breaks as the cock crows three times at dawn." For the next item, Li Xinmin stood in the center while the other three surrounded him, bowing at a 120-degree angle, forming an idiom. I correctly guessed, "The dog stands out among a group of chickens."
7. The Lunar New Year is a remarkable occasion for the Chinese people. It spans the first four days of the year, during which time people do not work, except for those on duty. Students are exempt from attending school, and shops remain closed.
8. In the days leading up to the new year, preparations are made. Farmers slaughter pigs, sheep, cocks, and hens, while city dwellers purchase meat, fish, and vegetables. Homes are cleaned, couplets are displayed on doors, and colorful lanterns hang at the gate.
9. On New Year's Eve, families come together to enjoy a reunion dinner. After the meal, they watch TV until midnight, when everyone sets off strings of firecrackers and fireworks to welcome the new year. Friends and relatives pay visits and exchange gifts, while children delight in various games.
