Despite the bad weather, they still had a good holiday. Despite it was the bad weather, they still had a good holiday.

Despite he was busy, he came to the station to meet us.
正:Despite he being busy, he came to the station to meetus.
正:Despite the fact that he was busy, he came to thestation to meet us.
He came to the meeting despite of his illness.
正:He came to the meeting in spite of his illness.
析:despite(尽管)本身是介词,注意不要受 in spite of(尽管)的影响,而误用 despite of(偶尔可见此用法,但因多数语言 学家反对这一用法,建议学生避免使用)。

相当于in spite of“尽管,不管”
eg 1. Tom failed the test inspite of / despite studying all night.

2. He was there on time in spite of/ despite the rain.

3. We adhered to our original plan of swimming in spite of / despite the bad weather.
